Photographer Problems

There's never any proof that you have ever been anywhere...

Just one of the drawbacks to being the one who always has her camera.;)
I'm sure many can relate.

HI!

Nope not dead yet. Though my following might be.:P I am truly sorry for letting my blog suffer neglect like this it's just that every time I think of posting my mind goes completely blank. "Who am I? What am I interested in? What do I talk about?" I'm sure you get the picture.

But today I'm going to bring up something I have never talked about before(at least I don't think I have). It's something that I have gotten quite obsessed with over the last year or so.

Crocheting!!!

Yes. I have been hooked. I even opened my own Etsy.

My to-do-list is longer than I will ever be able to crochet in my life. But that's ok because that's the way I like it.:) Sorta like my drawing to-do list. Only finished two of those last year by the way. Oops.:(

Anyway, this time I shall return and soon!:)

Week 12

Like the last couple of football seasons, this one has been CRAZY.

For instance, 3 Saturdays ago at the end of the Alabama vs. LSU game I was like....previous
Alabama's Jones celebrates after teammate McCarron rushed for a touchdown against LSU during NCAA football game in Baton Rouge

and then after last Saturday...

and now after last night...

Just crazy. Who would've thought?

So now you know how I watch Alabama games. I'll show you a picture of how I watched the Tennessee Vanderbilt game.

Now we get to go through the whole finding a new coach and rebuilding the program all over again. Whoopee...

I'm still pretty bummed about the election too. Last week was pretty rough. I did get to go to the Tenn. & Missouri game though, and besides being followed by weirdos, having someone lean into my knees with their back, and being smacked with pompoms(by a member of the Tennessee fan-base  no less), I had a blast.:)

Would love some comments this week!:D

From Francine Rivers

This is from the author, Francine Rivers', blog.

On the elections

I try to avoid politics when blogging, but feel I need to say a few things about the coming election.
I cannot in good conscience vote for any party that makes sin (unlimited abortion; gay marriage) primary points in their platform.  Nor can I vote for a man who is actively hostile toward biblical principles and Christianity.
One of President Obama’s many attacks has been the repeated attempt to revoke conscience protection for health workers who refuse to participate in medical activities (abortion) that go against their beliefs.  I believe abortion is just the beginning of what is included in “Obamacare”.
Everything is all about money these days.  Baby Boomers are flooding the Medicare system.  President Obama says he cares about people (giving 3% to charity?) and the elderly especially, but has already syphoned money to other programs.  I believe euthanasia is coming.  And I can hear the rationale from the non-medical council that will make policy decisions.  It won’t be a doctor or nurse or family making a decision with a patient, but a system dealing in numbers, not lives.  The elderly (67 and above) will find health care postponed, then delayed (indefinitely); i.e. passive euthanasia.  Eventually, as the consequences of our rising national debt continues to cripple our economy (more people out of work – less taxes), active euthanasia will come, along with rhetoric to cloak murder.   A phrase like “lacking quality of life” can make murder sound like mercy.
During the last three plus years, I’ve read and listened to the news, and I believe President Barak Obama speaks the truth when he says he wants to bring change.  Early in his first presidential election, he spoke of New Foundations for America.  He wanted people to think back to FDR’s New Deal and Kennedy’s New Frontier.  New Foundations sent up a red flag for many and his mantra became “change”.  He is shrewd; he is devious.
The thing is, I don’t want new foundations.  I want the original ones intended by our founding fathers.  I wonder how many of our children know 52 out of the 56 signers of our Declaration of Independence were Christians?  That two who weren’t (Franklin and Jefferson) agreed enough in principle to have God mentioned four times in the Declaration of Independence?  How many know that Benjamin Franklin called for prayer and that delegates fasted and prayed for three days and went from church to church worshipping God and asking for prayer before completing the Constitution?
Our nation is being destroyed by ignorance, run by prideful men who laugh and mock those who stand against them.  In this time of crisis, we need to reassess our Christian values, not abandon them!

Football, Twenty-twelve

I suppose it's official. I am a sporadic Blogger. There is no use for me to deny it any longer. But for some reason, I can't help but post during football season.:)

I'm not even sure how many readers are still with me. But I'm writing this because I want to. So there.;)

But it's late so I will keep it short.

Impressions of Week 1:

South Carolina & Vanderbilt - No surprises there. Poor Vandy.;)

Ohio & Penn St. - Though I didn't pick Ohio, it really didn't surprise me too much.

Alabama & Michigan: So much for being the match-up of the week.(hehe:)

Random:
Anyone know why an American football game was played in Ireland?

I didn't even get to watch my own team play cause we were at my brother's football game on Friday. *sigh* Sadness.:(

Annnndd....oh yeah, Auburn lost.

Week 2:

Missouri & Texas A&M, you can now consider yourselves initiated into the SEC.;)

Arkansas, What. Just. HAPPENED???? I understand that your 1st string QB was injured & that might set your team back for a spell, but to lose to LA MONROE????

Random: Still haven't seen Tennessee play.:(

Ummmm....OH! Auburn lost again.;)

This week it's.....Tennessee vs. Florida! I finally get to see them play(hopefully). And for once in the last decade I think we might actually have a chance to win.:D
Go Vols!!!:)

Comment if you love football!

Life Is Good:)

It really is! Can't think of anything to complain about. Alright maybe I can, doesn't mean I should though, right?;) The things that I complain (mentally) about most are things that can easily be fixed by changing MY attitude or actions. Something I realize more & more, day by day.

Looks so much better in person I swear.;)
Drawing took appr. a year to finish.

For instance I sometimes pout (mentally) that I don't draw as well as I like or as fast as I think I should. But you know whose fault that is? Mine! Why? Because, as Elizabeth Bennett would put it, "I have not taken the time to practice." I don't draw NEAR as often as I should. I am terrible about getting inspired by something & throwing myself at the project whole-heartedly. But just when it seems to take too long I get depressed & usually let the project sit for weeks, months even, without any progress. And even when the project is done(eventually) & I'm quite satisfied, sometimes even ecstatic, I still seem to never learn. In fact I just did it the other day.:p

Almost nothing was better than Mario games when I was growing up.:)
Was so fun to draw!
Nonetheless, this one took me almost a year too.

What you see above is pretty much all I have drawn since July. There's at least one more maybe two, but I think that's all.

By this time next year, I want to have twice this amount of drawings. Actually, four or five times more would be nice, but I'm trying to be realistic with myself.;)

How every perfectionist views his/her work.;)

God bless,
Alissa

P.S. I just saw that this is my 150th post. Time sure goes by fast!

I remember it well

Tomorrow is April 27. A year ago from tomorrow is a day I will remember forever.

Waking up to house with no power, unaware that a tornado had touched down merely a mile away.

Seeing the damage that was far too close to home.

Walking into a packed McDonald's several miles from because it was one of the closest places with power.

Hearing from the workers that more storms were headed our way.

Packing the usual valuables & necessary just-in-case items for the basement, once we arrived home.

Getting the call from my brother, who was at work, that a tornado had touched down in Tuscaloosa, was ripping it apart, & that we needed to get in a safe place as soon as possible.

Throwing valuables & clothes in laundry baskets like there was no tomorrow & praying for all those in the tornado's violent path.

Noticing that even the insects in the basement seemed to be trying to find a hiding place.

Watching our dog stare at the sky & whimper & not seeming to notice any of us (very unlike him).

Singing an intentionally poor version of "T'ill the Storm Passes Over" to try & lighten our moods.

Hearing that the storm had indeed passed us by. But was headed for Dad & our brother, & praying for them like crazy.

Getting the news that both of them were ok, even though it got very close to my brother.

Of course there is more to my story than a few sentences, but I don't feel the need to write it all here. This is just my way of remembering the day that changed the lives of so many. You can still see the damage in places like Tuscaloosa & Pleasant Grove & whenever I drive through I am reminded that even though many people died that God was merciful to those he spared and faithful to those who survived.

A cross made from scrap metal from the wreckage pf April 27th
It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:23

God bless,
Alissa
